About Matthew

As a highly qualified and experienced Government Economist, I bring a unique blend of expertise in economics, econometrics and mathematics to my tutoring. With a Distinction in MSc Economics (and Econometrics) from the University of Southampton, where I achieved the highest marks in my class, and a First Class degree with honours in Economics from the University of Surrey, I have the knowledge and skills to help students reach their full potential.

In my previous role as the Head of Data and Analytics in the Cabinet Office, I honed my teaching skills by delivering effective charts and tables, intro to econometrics, and econometrics for policy evaluation to graduate cohorts. My extensive experience in producing professional economic and data analysis for the government gives me valuable context when teaching, as well as a unique insight into university, UCAS, and graduate applications.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I believe in a tailored and student-centered approach to learning. My teaching methodology combines interactive lessons, practical examples, and hands-on exercises to help students understand the material and retain it long-term. I also provide regular feedback and assessments to track progress and identify areas for improvement.

My lessons typically last one hour, but this can be adjusted based on the student's needs and availability. I have over 1000 hours of experience teaching Economics and Econometrics to Postgraduate level, and Mathematics to A-level. I am a well-qualified tutor, having received a Distinction in MSc Economics (and Econometrics) from the University of Southampton and a First Class degree with honours in Economics from the University of Surrey.

My lessons are suitable for students at undergraduate, A level, and GCSE levels, as well as those preparing for UCAS Entrance Exams and Interview Preparation. I am experienced in teaching all major UK exams (11+, 13+, GCSE, iGCSE, EPQ, A level, IB), across all major boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR).
