About Roshan
Having taught at a number of universities in both the UK and Australia over the last twenty-five years I am now engaging in a change of direction as a tutor. My areas of teaching expertise are Law (Land Law, Constitutional/Public Law, Jurisprudence/Legal Theory and Legal History in particular). As a legal historian my expertise extends to GCSE and A Level History. In the course of undertaking my LLM I took a course in advanced Legal Theory which gave me the skills to cover Sociology up to A Level. When I taught Jurisprudence at Griffith University (in Australia) and at the University of Kent a substantive part of these courses was devoted to sociological approaches to Law which encompasses the core areas covered in A Level sociology. My pedagogical approach is directed at helping students become self-reflective learners through a flipped learning/seminar based approach which places the onus on students to take charge of their own learning. Where appropriate I also used visual media (movies, documentaries and visual art) to enhance the learning experience at degree level. Indicative of my ability to deliver high quality teaching in core subjects like Property Law the following peer review comments of my teaching stand out; in 2016 a peer review of my teaching in Property Law by my academic line-manager stated:- “Roshan is teaching a difficult subject that requires students to reflect and think. This requires him to explain thoughts and arguments in some detail. Roshan expertly crafted his presentation using Power Points and accessing key materials (images of paintings) on the internet.” Beyond teaching, I have a demonstrated and proven capacity to take my scholarship to a wider public, in both journalistic pieces and scholarly publications. To date I have published one book with Routledge and over twenty articles in journals and edited collections. I continue to research and publish in the field of Legal History and the intersection of Law and Religion. I also remain an active member of the editorial board of the Griffith Law Review and South Asia Research. In addition to offering one on one teaching in the areas I have outlined I can also advise and direct your research with respect to detailed projects/dissertations at either degree level in the LLB or in A Level History, Politics and Sociology. University : - University of London - LLB [2.1] - University of London - LLM [Merit] School : A Levels - History [B] - Politics [B] - Sociology [B] Prizes and Scholarships : I was awarded a scholarship by the University of Kent to undertake my PhD. Other Qualifications : I received a Griffith Certificate in Education in 2014. As part of my commitment to professional development I have taken part in courses that cover the following areas of teaching practice:- • Active Learning: Engaged and Learning Workshop • Foundations of University Teaching Workshop • Working on Course Profiles through a Programme Lens Workshop • Course design and development • Developing Effective Teaching Series: Giving Feedback to Students
