About Fiona

I am from Germany, was raised bilingual with German and English. I took an interest in Yoga at the age of about 18. Over the years I practiced with a lot of different teachers and got to experience different yoga and teaching styles. I always liked the physical aspect of yoga that strengthens your muscles and increases your flexibility, but also the calming, relaxing effect it has on the mind and body. I also love dancing and acroyoga and think yoga is a perfect complement to dancing or any kind of sport. I did my 200-hour yoga teacher training in English in October 2022 in Medellin, Colombia, at a yoga school that is registered with the Yoga Alliance. Subsequently, I joined their one-month internship program in which I gained the ability to teach yoga in Spanish and got more practice teaching yoga. I can also teach in Portuguese.

I teach an alignment-based Hatha Yoga which is suitable both for active flows and for more restorative or relaxing classes. I can plan my classes according to my student's preferences. I normally start with the introduction of a class theme, setting an intention for the class and/or a short meditation or pranayama to help the student arrive in the present moment and get ready for a conscious asana practice that is aligned with the breath. We continue with a warm-up phase which leads to more dynamic movements, eventually building up to a peak-pose which is then followed by a cool-down phase and corpse-pose (Savasana) to end the class. My classes are suitable for all levels.

  • What age did you start playing sport? Tell us about this time or moment in your life.

I began practicing yoga around the age of 18 with two of my close friends from school. My mom had been practicing yoga for years and introduced me to it. She found a local teacher who was just starting out and looking for students, so we had the opportunity to begin learning with her. I immediately connected with the practice, especially the final asana, Savasana. The relaxation I felt in both my body and mind after each class was profound, and it sparked a lasting passion for yoga that has only grown over time.
  • What are your favorite sports; those that you practice at a high level, a simple hobby, and a sport that you'd still like to discover?

Yoga is, of course, one of my greatest passions, and I love sharing it with others. That`s why I did my 200h YTT. In addition to yoga, I'm an avid dancer, particularly drawn to Brazilian couple dances like Forró and Brazilian Zouk, as well as Argentinian Tango and Kizomba. I've been dancing Brazilian Zouk at an advanced level for some time, while Forró and Tango have been part of my life for over a decade. Dance allows me to deeply connect with myself, my partner, and the music, creating a true state of flow. I've taught Forró both in Germany and Brazil, and I'm excited to soon teach Brazilian Zouk in Germany as well. I'm always open to exploring new dance styles, and recently I've started learning West Coast Swing. Additionally, I'm passionate about acroyoga and acrobatics and can definitely see myself teaching acroyoga in the future. Wherever I travel, I seek out dance or acro(yoga) communities to share my passions and learn from others worldwide.
  • What gives you the motivation and passion to pursue your sport?

The motivation to continue practicing yoga and dancing comes from the way both practices make me feel. Yoga builds strength, mobility, and body awareness while also calming the mind. The ability to connect deeply with my body on both a physical and psychological level is incredibly fulfilling. These benefits extend to my dance and acroyoga practice, allowing me to improve in those areas as well. Every time I step on the mat or hit the dance floor, I'm reminded of the sense of peace and growth that these practices bring.
  • Do you have a sporting achievement that you're particularly proud of?

One achievement I'm particularly proud of is completing my 200-hour yoga teacher training in Medellín, Colombia. It was an unforgettable experience, not only because of the beautiful, sunny city but also because of the profound personal growth I experienced during the program. I'm also proud of the opportunity to teach yoga online, reaching students from all over the world and sharing the benefits that yoga has brought into my life. In addition, I've made great strides in my acroyoga and dance practices, and those achievements continue to inspire me.
  • How have your achievements and challenges made you a better sportsperson?

Completing my YTT in Medellín was a transformative experience. It deepened my understanding of yoga, which in turn improved my personal practice. The body awareness I gained through yoga has positively impacted my acroyoga and dance skills. Overcoming challenges in both yoga and dance has taught me patience, discipline, and how to embrace the process of learning, all of which contribute to my growth as a sportsperson.
  • If you had to go for a jog with a famous athlete, who would you choose? And what questions would you ask them?

Jogging might not be my ideal activity due to knee impact, but if I could have a conversation with any influential figure, it would be with a prominent yoga or meditation teacher-perhaps someone like Vipassana teacher S. N. Goenka or Louise Hay. I would love to ask them how they cultivate such a deep sense of inner peace, and how they maintain their practice through challenges and changes in life.
  • How do you help people stay motivated?

I believe the key to motivating others is to genuinely share the benefits of the practice you love. When I teach yoga, I aim to create an environment that supports both physical and mental well-being. If my students can feel the love and dedication I have for yoga, and experience the positive effects it has on their bodies and minds, I believe they'll feel motivated to continue their journey. My goal is always to inspire and support them in finding their own sense of strength and peace through the practice.
  • What makes you a Superprof in sports?

Being a Superprof means sharing your passion in a way that helps others improve and enrich their lives. I aim to make every class a meaningful experience, offering not only technical skills but also a deeper connection to the practice. Whether it's yoga, acroyoga, or dance, my goal is to inspire and empower others to explore their potential and improve both physically and mentally, creating a lasting impact that goes beyond just the sport itself.
