About Mark
I have taught people of all ages, from lots of different countries, and at all levels (from beginner to proficiency) in Italy for International House, and here in England.
I am happy to help you with grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking, fluency, accuracy, pronunciation, listening, exam preparation, academic English, business English or functional everyday English. I can design a course for your specific language needs, interests and priorities so that together, we can achieve your goals.
Since gaining my CELTA (Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), I have taught in a diverse range of people in a diverse range of environments.
My first teaching role was teaching ESOL at an education centre, preparing EU students for work experience placements in the UK. I then spent two successful and fulfilling years teaching adults and young learners at International House Reggio Calabria and in Italian state schools. I now live in Leeds, where I have been teaching with Leeds City Council’s Adult Community Learning Team for almost two years.
My teaching experience also includes volunteering as an ESOL teacher for the British Red Cross in Greater Manchester and for an independent charity here in Leeds, teaching refugees and asylum seekers.
A good teacher should always be learning and I have developed a lot as a teacher through these experiences, as well as through more formal ongoing professional development (such as in-service teacher training and observations) in each of my teaching roles. I obtained the International House Certificate in Teaching Young Learners and Teenagers, for example, which I achieved while also working full-time as a teacher.

I aim to help learners feel comfortable and confident so they can communicate more effectively and reach their goals. I create enjoyable, interactive and customised lessons for all my students.
I am able to use numerous different teaching approaches, having been trained in them and having practised them for years. My experience in teaching using a range of approaches means that I can tailor lessons based on your language needs and interests.
