About Cindy
As a voracious reader and avid writer (of dramatic works-- plays, stories, poetry), I've gotten to see how writing devices and finding one's own style really make standard writing stand out from a crowd.
Throughout my academic career (now in my final year at New York University), I've scored top grades in all my classes (working with APA and MLA style writing on a variety of topics: Literature, Comparative Literature, Rhetoric, Persuasive Writing/Argumentation, Creative Writing, Scripts, Theatre Studies, and Psychology Writing).
I'm well-versed in the structure of the AP exams and have scored 5s on both the Literature and Language exams. I have had extensive experience correcting essays at the secondary school and college level, aware of the transition between both. As a tutor, I strive to bring out my student's personal voices and help them express their ideas in the most optimal way.

Having taken English literature/language classes in both high school and university (Russian literature), I focus on teaching students tried and true essay structures, portable for wherever their academic and professional life takes them!
I focus on the Jane Schaffer paragraph style for high school and college students-- especially in preparation for AP English Literature and AP English Language exams from College Board. I send my students topics in past years that have appeared on the exams to prepare for each year's questions and be as prepared as possible for the essays.
For a typical lesson, we start with goal setting, reviewing the student's writing, and making adjustments and suggestions for further improvement. Can't wait to meet you!
