About Etienne
Hello ! I am Etienne, a former student in Preparatory Classes Humanities and Sciences Sociales (B/L) at the Lycée du Parc in Lyon, where I had 7 hours of language courses per week.
I passed the English TOEFL Test with 107/120 points, which is equivalent to a fluent level or a C2 Level.
I learned to master my accent thanks to an immersion within an Irish family.

I offer English courses structured around three axes:
- The oral practice, in order to improve your accent: this is necessary because the accent is both the first evidence of your oral skills, and what allows you to get more fluent. However, even if practicing orally is important for your pronunciation, there are methods too: for example, English, contrary to popular belief, is a language that contains accents, just as Spanish! The tricky point is only that they are not indicated! Improving your spoken English requires tools that cannot be learned solely through conversation. Private lessons allow the student to break down the words, which eases the process to learn them.
- English linguistics. Grammar is a key to progress: it determines conjugation, and it is the gateway to the "internal logic" of the English language. The thing is one is usually reluctant, if not intimidated, to go through grammar. Mastering grammar requires to understand why it is useful, but most importantly to look into how English describes the world in a different way than the French language. It can be fascinating! This is something rarely done at school as there is not enough time.
- Learning new vocabulary. Once you master the structure, you need to add content! This is another step that can be intimidating, given its scope. But again, nothing is magical: learning vocabulary goes through memo-technical methods. These methods are specific to each one of us: this is what the advice to "create a unique relationship with the language" refers to. Nevertheless, one often asks to be advised when he or she first starts this method.
This whole organisation of mine adapts of course to the singularity of each student. I use paper or digital media to teach, or the students' own material (their lessons, etc.).
I teach classes for middle and high school students, from 6th to 12th grade: this a period when English is gradually gaining importance but in which the school system lacks being able to provide this individual approach. In that case, my goal is to re-motivate students who could feel lost by showing them their abilities.
