About Janet

I spent years working as a flight attendant, dealing directly with travelers from dozens of countries navigating English in real, sometimes stressful situations. Ten years into teaching now, I've guided approximately two hundred thirty students, most of them preparing for travel, relocation, or simply wanting genuinely practical, real-world English skills. My aviation background gives me unusually direct insight into exactly what actually trips travelers up in real conversations, insight that purely academic teachers rarely have themselves. I work particularly well with students preparing for a specific trip or move, since that's exactly the situation I watched play out thousands of times during my career. My teaching style is practical and scenario-based, built on real, lived observation rather than textbook assumptions about what travelers supposedly need. I take genuine pride in helping a nervous student walk confidently through an airport or hotel conversation they once dreaded facing alone. Former students regularly message me from actual trips, telling me a specific phrase or scenario we practiced came in genuinely useful in the moment. My approach treats English as a real travel tool, not an abstract academic subject, and I think that distinction matters enormously for practical learners. After ten years, I remain genuinely passionate about this travel-focused, real-world teaching approach.

English

I spent years working in aviation, dealing with travellers from every corner of the world, so my lessons focus heavily on the exact English situations that actually come up when you're moving through the world. We cover airport and hotel scenarios in real detail, check-ins, delays, complaints, directions, the specific situations I personally handled thousands of times from the other side of the counter. Vocabulary is entirely practical, built around travel, hospitality, and everyday logistics rather than abstract or overly academic material a traveller will rarely actually need. I run realistic roleplay constantly, practising exactly how a real conversation at a check-in desk or hotel reception genuinely unfolds, including the awkward moments and unexpected questions. Listening practice uses genuine accents and speaking speeds, since I know firsthand how differently people actually speak compared to slow, clear textbook audio recordings. I teach students how to politely ask for clarification and buy themselves thinking time, skills I watched save countless nervous travellers from real confusion and frustration. Cultural context gets real attention too, helping students understand tone and politeness norms that textbooks rarely properly cover in enough useful detail. Confidence-building is central, since I watched fear freeze more travellers than actual lack of vocabulary ever did during my years in aviation. Every lesson stays genuinely practical and travel-focused throughout.
