About Emman

I am currently a first year Law student in Roehampton University, aspiring towards a career in Human Rights. As much as I respect and adhere to the academic qualities and expectations of a Law course, I refuse to abandon my creative roots: my enjoyment of poetry, singing, songwriting and dancing. Previously, I was a student at Holy Cross Catholic Girls School. While I attended, I was given the opportunity to develop both socially and academically. My important role as a year 7 Mentor was not only a great fun experience, but crucial in building my: communication skills, patience and understanding; when working with those younger and more vulnerable. In terms of relevant grades, I received A in English language GCSE and A in English literature GCSE. I then achieved a B in an A-level English language and literature combined course. Outside of school, for four years, I offered tuition for English and Maths. I am proud to say that my student achieved a B in her GCSE English. With the guidance of my Aunt who works professionally as a Tutor teacher, I was able to develop my teaching approach always with the focus of supporting my student to be her best. Furthermore, I have work experience at Tucker's Solicitors, where I met a few solicitors, spoke personally with a judge, delivered important evidence and attended Westminster magistrates court. Personally, I believe the education system in the UK is problematic for children and needs grave improvement. I hope my teaching style which allows room for creativity as well as "centering to the real world", will make a difference.

About the lesson

My teaching method is not of a particular style, purely because I recognise that every child is their own individual and therefore sometimes it is necessary to adapt to suit their own needs. As a young person who is still in her years of education, I recognise the failures of some teachers to ensure their lessons are engaging; therefore this is a top priority for me. I use a range of resources including videos, puzzles, random unexpected quizzes/mini tests, to keep them alert and see how much they know. I combine the student's personal interest with the curriculum. For example, my student was extremely interested in black history so when it came round to teaching her speech writing of which she had to perform, I entailed the language skills with the topic of black history analysing and comparing the style of Malcolm X to Barack Obama, what techniques they used, its effect and how she could incorporate it into her own. Through the first session, I will have a rough idea of my student's weakness and strength which I can then build the lessons around.
