About Osbaldo
Math is an art more than it is a science. Like any art, though, it's necessary to recognize the fundamentals before one makes a masterpiece. Before you can gain valuable insight into the beauty found in calculus, linear algebra, and higher levels of mathematics, you must know how to manipulate variables and understand the relationships between shapes, angles, and lines. It is my hope that I am able to help you out.
I'm Ozzie, an undergraduate student at the University of Chicago who is still trying to figure out what to do in his life. One thing I do love is teaching, particularly when students are passionate about learning. As I'm still only 19, the memories of high school math are still fresh in my mind. What I lack in experience, I hope to make up for in accomplishments, enthusiasm, and skill.
I've captained my high school's math team and won a few individual and regional awards. This is perhaps where I have gained most of my tutoring experience, as I have spent countless hours demonstrating how to solve complex math problems to my peers, especially in the fields of geometry and algebra.
I've scored a '5' in AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, and AP Statistics, as well as straight A's in all of my high school math courses.
I've been doing algebra and geometry since middle school, and thus have several years' worth of background in studying and solving problems.
I've scored a 36 on my Math ACT subscore and a 790 on my Math SAT subscore.
As a Latino, it is my hope that I can provide tutoring to students from lower-income and minority backgrounds like myself. It is wonderful to see people like myself represented in the highest stages of academic competition and schooling, especially when they have had difficult experiences that have made their education more difficult, yet more worthwhile.

0. Demonstrate the beauty and applicability of math problems, with the hope that the student can gain an appreciation of the intrinsic beauty of mathematics and the extrinsic value that knowing it has on our daily lives and projects.
1. Have them do an overview of the particular field of math that they are studying, to see what they have mastered, what they can improve, and what they do not yet know.
2. Have them perfect their skills in particular problems that they understand in some degree, so that they are only left with a series of methods they do not understand.
3. Teach problems that they do not understand, paying attention to how a problem is similar and different to other problems encountered in the past.
4. Lay out step-by-step problem solving strategies, and share when particular strategies should be used.
5. Take a review test of the material they are supposed to understand, and refine their skills on problems they have been working on.

Details
As I have little to no experience right now, I am offering a limited number of one-to-two hour sessions per week. One session per customer per week. That said, my sessions are free. I do not wish to get paid until I can establish myself as a competent tutor.
