About Michael

For my junior and senior years of high school, I was a volunteer tutor in algebra, geometry, physics, and SAT math through my school's STARS tutoring program. I've taken math up to AP Calculus BC, and I've tutored about 8 people in math. I was named a top STARS tutor at the school awards ceremonies in both 2018 and 2019. One of my physics students said I explained the material a lot better than her teacher did, and I helped a struggling SAT math student raise his scores 70 points after only 3 two-hour sessions. After I graduated, I started my own private math tutoring business.

I started in high school through STARS (Students Teaching And Reaching Students), a volunteer tutoring program at my school, as a tutor for several subjects and then decided to start my own private business after I graduated.

I have a high school diploma and received a 5 on the AP Calculus BC exam. I now attend Berry College.

About the lesson

First, I give students a free 30-minute consultation to get to know them and give them a chance to talk about what concepts they struggle most with and what their goals are. I might go through a pre-test during the consultation or give them 20 questions that cover a wide variety of content to try at home. They would then scan their pre-test and send it to me via e-mail, and I could then gather common questions about the topics they missed. This way we'll both be most prepared on what to practice for the next session. I'll usually give them 20 or so questions to try at home, and then we'll go over them at the next session.

I've worked with middle schoolers, high schoolers, and first and second year college students.

I OFFER TUTORING IN THE FOLLOWING SUBJECTS (at any level - academic, advanced, honors, AP):

- general middle school math

- pre-algebra

- algebra 1

- algebra 2

- geometry

- precalculus

- calculus 1/differential calculus

- calculus 2/integral calculus

- AP Calculus AB/BC

- ACT math

- SAT math

Find someone who will be willing to push through with you until you complete understand everything. The teacher should be willing to put in the extra work to help you achieve your goals.

Word got around that I was a pretty good math tutor at my high school, so this one kid asked me to help him for the SAT, but the school only sponsored tutoring in math classes, not standardized testing. However, I volunteered to tutor him anyway, and I helped him raise his math score by 70 points.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should make sure they know what kind of tutoring they need and in what specific areas. Knowing what content you need to go over will make the process a lot faster and the teacher will be more willing to help you if you're organized.
