About Julia

I have a PhD in mathematics and I love to show people math is not just about calculations and techniques. Math can be fun, exciting and immensely rewarding.

My approach is not to show kids the steps to solving specific problems - this knowledge usually doesn't last past the nearest test. To do well in math, they need to understand the topic in depth, be able to approach a problem from different angles, break it down into manageable parts, identify the gaps in their knowledge, and eventually be ready to learn independently.

For kids who love math and are not challenged enough in school I can offer homeschooling and online learning support, recreational math and contest problems, or just go wherever your child's curiosity takes them.

I help students build confidence and cultivate a growth mindset that views making mistakes as a necessary part of learning and welcomes challenges instead of fearing them.

I love a student's excitement when they have a sudden breakthrough. I also enjoy figuring out what keeps students from succeeding in math, and how we can overcome these obstacles together.
