About Karin

Hello! I'm Mrs. Ecker and I'm here to help elementary and middle school students navigate through their educational journey. I graduated from Cedarville College in 1998 with an Elementary Education degree (preK-8). I have been working as a tutor and substitute teacher most of the time since the fall of 2011 in Wayne County (Ohio). During that time I worked with the same student for 5 years and received training in applied behavior analysis. I also did after school tutoring and worked as a paraprofessional. I took some time off starting in the fall of 2017 due to health reasons. In January of 2020, I returned to substitute teaching and tutoring. I missed working with "my kids" so much! We are living in very difficult times right now and I know many students are struggling. I'm here to help them get caught up and stay on track.

I love working with students and watching the lightbulb turn on as they realize that they just did it themselves. I enjoy working with students with disabilities because every student learns differently. It's so rewarding to help them find their own way. Learning should be fun, so I often use games to help students understand what is difficult for them.I look forward to meeting you!

I received my Elementary Education degree in 1998, however I had the privilege of tutoring elementary students as a high school student.

My training in Applied Behavior Analysis showed me that errorless learning takes the pressure off the student. Students that see themselves succeeding will be more engaged in learning.

About the lesson

When I meet a new student I like to watch them work while asking questions to see how they learn. Then we can work together utilizing their strengths to concentrate on where they are struggling. I often use games to reinforce what the student just learned.

I have worked mostly with students with disabilities, especially students on the autism spectrum. However, I have also worked with students in the general classroom.

You need to find a tutor who understands how you learn and encourages you to do it on your own. Your tutor is there to help you become a stronger learner.

Mother's Day was yesterday and my daughter and I got to plant flowers and herbs. We researched how to plant them and in a few weeks we will have fresh herbs and flowers. It was a simple event, but we are learning to take time to enjoy the simple things again.

My standard pricing is $20-30 per hour based on the student's needs. I'm currently only "seeing" students online so travel costs are not applicable at this time.
