About Anna

As a teenager, I had a good network of families who would frequently ask me to babysit. These families and I became very close and they began hiring me to do tasks other than babysitting, including helping their children with their homework.

While my overall career goal is to work in the public health field, tutoring and teaching has played a large role into getting me to where I am today. In the past, I have held several tutoring jobs, both to children and adults. My lessons have included everything from elementary school math to TEFL prep. Additionally, at my current full time job, I frequently give educational trainings to healthcare providers on cultural competency and working with certain demographics.

About the lesson

In my opinion, the most important first step when working with a new student is to become familiar with their personality. Each student has a different learning style that it is important that I, as a teacher, understand so that I can adjust my teaching style. I have worked with students who prefer to work through problems on their own and then ask me to review their work. I have also worked with students that prefer for me to be there every step of the way.

Most of the students that I have worked have been elementary school students. Their parents were looking for assistance with completing their homework. More recently, I assisted an 8 year-old boy with his homeschooling during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, I have also worked with a couple adult students to help them learn English. Typically, these lessons focus on English conversational skills, but I have also done some work with grammar and reading.
