About Anthony

I have developed a number of methods for teaching drums to beginners, intermediate, and advanced drummers. These methods were developed from years of teaching students and are designed to make coordination, counting, technique, and ear training much easier to understand, retain, and reach success and confidence.

I started teaching while in college as a drum and percussion instructor for local marching bands.
After college I was hired by a number of local after school music lessons programs and have even retained students from when I first started.
I have been coaching a teenage rock band at one of the programs that I work with.
I also habe been teaching students privately during this time, as well.

I have a degree in music education from Montclair State University with a license to teach music in public schools.
I also have over decade's experience in performing as a professional drummer and percussionist.

About the lesson

For new students, the first thing I do is teach how the hands move when striking a drum. This is very important to learn before learning how to grip the stick and how to strike the drum.

I have worked with students of all ages including children from ages 5 to 17 and adults from ages 18 to 65.

Ask the teacher if they can give you a trial lesson, no more than 30 minutes.
Ask he teacher if they plan on giving you something to work on between lessons.
Ask the teacher what equipment/instrument you need for your lesson.

An 8 year old student of mine who I have been teaching since he started drums at 5 years old is now performing the drum parts to songs like "My Hero" by the Foo Fighters and "In Bloom" by Nirvana. To watch and listen to an 8 year old perform such an impressive drum part had me in awe. It was very proud moment for.
Also, watching the teenage rock band that I coach perform live on a stage in front of an audience and to see them having fun is also a proud moment for me.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Make sure you find a way to get a set of drums, or a snare, or at least a drum pad and a pair of drumsticks. You are only going to learn by playing.
Make sure you have a notebook with a pencil with you during each lesson.
And think about when you can definitely spend time practicing your instrument during the week and make those your practice times.
