About Sembly

I am an actor and teacher based in the Atlanta area. My focus in performance is musical theatre. I can teach any age, but my specialty is early elementary. I have taught with Elm Street Cultural Arts Village, Forefront Arts, and Aurora theatre and am always looking for more opportunities to work with people looking to become more comfrotable acting. Whether you are looking at building confidence, or professional development, I am happy to help you achieve your goals.

My greatest excitement is always finding the shy quiet kid and pulling them out of their shell. I am passionate about theatre, not only for the chance it affords me to perform, but the potential it has to bring individuals and communities together. I love helping people to find that connection, even if they aren't planning on pursuing acting as a profession. I look to help people discover things about themselves and seek to discover things about each other.

I went to an arts high school and had an internship as a teaching assistant my junior year. I had a great time working with the younger kids and I knew I wanted to continue helping other people with their arts.

I have a B.A. in theatre with an emphasis on performance, as well as a completed theatre apprenticeship that included acting, teaching, working tech, and managing.

About the lesson

The process depends on what the student is trying to accomplish, so we typically just start with a discussion of what their goals are. If it's something like audition prep, the process will be very straightforward: I'll take a look at them performing their materials and give feedback.
For people without a specific event to prepare for, we have a more generalized approach where we start with tools like articulation, intention, and connecting emotions to the body, then attach those tools to a simple peformance piece.

I've worked with children as young as 3 years old and as old as 18. I've mostly worked in a camp/after school setting, with some private lessons in between depending on availability. Some have been interested in pursuing theatre professionally, most for a hobby or to learn.

I would advise a student to look for someone with whom they have chemistry. Acting is all about connecting, and you have to have an acting coach you can connect with.
