About Karen
I have been a filmmaker for over ten years, and I would love to give back to a craft that has given me so much joy. I have a passion for working with actors and helping them create characters that they can morph into as well as fall in love with the outcome of their efforts.
I made myself learn how to act before I became a Director and Writer. I could not image being able to tell an actor what to do unless I understood what it was like to be in front of the camera.
I have a compassion for the efforts it takes to be an actor, and to be able to completely release all inhibitions.
I currently have completed a feature film and have two others in preproduciton. Some of my work can be seen on my website.

I wanted to start sharing my experiences with other like minded people who have a strong creative passion for acting. No one understands that desire like another actor.
There is never a better education than actually being on set and working on your craft. I would get in front and behind the camera when are wherever I could. What I leaned from veteran directors and DP's is priceless.
I was a also member of the Actors Studio in San Diego for many years. I still revisit this studio to do auditions and work one on one with actors to prepare for rolls they have been cast in.

Depending on their level of experience...
*I start with getting to know the actor on a very personal level. Why they want to act, how they feel about where they are at in their abilities, and also what they want the outcome to be.
*Next I would start with very simple improv exercises to see how relaxed an actor can be in unfamiliar situations. If they can let go of their insecurities and lose themselves in what they are doing.
*One of the most important things for beginners would be to talk opening ly about the ins and outs of being on set, stage, or video. What it's really like to do take after take, and understand what will be expected of them.
*After accessing their level of ability, we would start with simple sides that I would work with them on, this would also give me the ability to see what level they are at.
*Next is probably the most important set, getting out of their heads, and what that means.
