About Kyle James

I am all about the growth of my students and about being honest with them about where they are and how hard they are going to have to work to get where they want to be. I can give them technique, guidance, coaching, and material to study, but above anything else I'm going to make sure they get the attention and dedication from me that they deserve during our time together. I make no guarantees of stardom or landing the role. I can only guarantee that if you show me you are going to work hard then I will work hard for you.

I love watching my students grow and discover. Not just in regards to their craft, but in their knowledge of themselves as people, in their ability to make choices and take risks, and in their confidence in their abilities. The theatre literally saved my life and I feel it is mm duty to share that passion with others in hopes it does for them what it did for me.

In regards to ASL I love watching students grow, but also develop communication skills that have real life applications. I love hearing stories about my students being able to communicate with Deaf or Hard of Hearing customers or even family for the first time. And I just love the language and the community of incredible people who taught it to me.

I was a teaching assistant for my ASL professor in college. Before then I had never thought I'd ever be a teacher. That experience changed my life. I became a teacher the moment I graduated from college and haven't looked back since.

I have been involved in the Theatre world for 25 years. I have acted, sang, directed, and choreographed professionally and have been a part of the operations of several Theatre companies. I am fluent in American Sign Language and learned from members of the Deaf Community in both academic and social environments. I have been signing since I was 15 and used to be high school ASL teacher. I have been a teacher overall since 2010 in public high schools, and now in a local performing arts academy. I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Dance and Theatre from Sam Houston State University where I was proud to receive an outstanding education. I am a certified teacher in the state of Texas in American Sign Language, Theatre, and Speech/Professional Communication. My specialties include: Acting and Scene Coaching, Audition Prep, Resume and Headshots, Musical Theatre Rep., Choreography, Physical Theatre and Theatrical Movement, Puppetry, and Character Analysis.

About the lesson

First I want to get to know them and their goals. Our first session is going to be us just having a conversation about them and then watching them perform. I want to see what you can do and where I can help you. This may change depending on the course or lessons you take, but only just slightly. Once I see and hear what you can do we will come up with a game plan together and work to get you to your first goal.

I have worked with all kinds of students! I love the diversity of humanity and have formed with students who are from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds, are LGBTQ+ individuals, hold various spiritual beliefs, have disabilities, are veteran performers, or are brand new to everything. Let's meet and see if I am a fit for you. All are welcome to work with me!

+ Acting/Choreography Lessons:

30 Minute Lessons - $50 per lesson

45 Minute Lessons - $75 per lesson

1 Hour Lessons - $100 per lesson

Intensive Workshops (2 hours or more on a single day) - Varies

+ American Sign Language Lessons:

1 hour lessons - $100 per lesson

2 hour lessons - $175 per lesson

** I do not make students sign up for a minimum number of lessons. But I will hold students financially responsible for all lessons they sign up for whether they attend or not. Students are welcome to snag a time slot or several during the week on a regular basis. When and how often we work is all up to you.
