About Amanda
I have been practicing theatre for 12 years, and graduated summa cum laude from Eastern Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in communications and theatre arts. I am an actively practicing theatre artist.
I have worked with people ages 5 to 60, at many different skill levels, and have developed 3 separate theatre camp experiences. My goal is to work with you to find an honest way into a character or scene.
I love finding characters with people. There is always a moment where it just clicks, and it's amazing. The joy of playing, the freedom of expression, and the strength in vulnerability are all, in my opinion, inimitable from person to person or moment to moment. And that's awesome.
I was asked to assist with a theatre camp 8 years ago where I worked with children 5-8 years old. We played various improv games, taught basic script and character work, and put on a show at the end of the week.
Fundamentals of Acting, Interpretative Reading, Audition, Script Analysis, Characterization, Producing Theatre, Play Direction, Jewish Identity and The American Theatre, History of Theatre 1642 to Present, History of Theatre Beginning to 1642, Musical Theatre Acting, Movement for Actors, Dramaturgy, Performing Shakespeare I & II, and Announcing Techniques for Electronic Media were all part of my curriculum at Eastern.
I also did multiple theatre practices where I worked as Set Crew, Set Crew Head, Assistant Director, Director, and Stage Manager.

My first step is listening and observation. Theatre is about collaboration. I will never tell you how I would do it. It is my goal to help you find how you would do it. We will work through the text, talk motivation, and just play with scenes and characters. If you're a beginner, we'll start from the beginning. I will meet you where you are.
Age 5-60.
Work with someone who wants to collaborate with you. Acting is a team contact sport.
I was working with a younger student, she was about 12, and had never done theater before. She was feeling a little insecure, but was trying everything we asked her to. The other students were super supportive of her. Between our coaching and the other students support, she blossomed. The smile on her face at the end of the showcase said it all. She was proud of herself, and I was proud of her, too.
