About Mohammed

I am a qualified teacher and Deputy Headteacher with over 10 years’ experience working in education and 15 years’ experience tutoring pupils. I am also a King’s College London graduate and have extensive experience supporting children across different ages and abilities.

Throughout my career, I have worked with pupils who lack confidence in Maths, pupils who have gaps in their learning, and high-achieving pupils who need greater challenge. I understand that every child learns differently, and one of my greatest strengths is identifying exactly where a pupil is struggling and helping them make progress from that point.

I am passionate about teaching because I believe the right explanation can completely change a child’s relationship with Maths. My aim is not simply to help pupils get the correct answer, but to develop their confidence, understanding and independence so that they can succeed without relying on a tutor.

As both an experienced classroom teacher and school leader, I have a strong understanding of the National Curriculum, assessment and the expectations placed on pupils from Primary through to GCSE. I bring that experience into every tutoring session while maintaining a patient, positive and encouraging approach.

About the lesson

My lessons are carefully structured, engaging and tailored to each individual pupil. Drawing on over 15 years of tutoring experience and more than 10 years as a qualified teacher, I use evidence-informed teaching approaches, including Rosenshine’s Principles of Instruction, to help pupils understand Maths rather than simply memorise methods.

Each lesson begins with retrieval and a short recap to identify prior learning and any gaps. I then introduce new learning in small, manageable steps using clear modelling: “My Turn, Our Turn, Your Turn.” We work through examples together before gradually building towards independent practice.

Throughout the lesson, I use targeted questioning, regular checks for understanding and immediate feedback. If a pupil has a misconception, we address it before moving on. Lessons build progressively from fluency and core knowledge to reasoning, problem-solving and exam-style questions where appropriate.

Most importantly, I adapt my teaching to the child in front of me. Whether a pupil is struggling with confidence, needs to close gaps, wants to work above age-related expectations or is preparing for SATs or GCSEs, I create a clear pathway to help them make measurable progress and become confident, independent mathematicians.
