About Alexander Darryl
My name is Alexander Darryl McConnel, but people call me Darryl.
I worked in the insurance, finance, and banking industry for over 40 years, but in 2014 I made a life-changing decision to go to China and teach English.
I originally went for one year, but fell in love with the people and the country and ended up staying until I finally retired in 2020 and came back to Australia.
I have a real passion for teaching English as a second language and seeing the changes in my students as they grasp the idiosyncrasies of this amazing language.

I prepare individual material for each student, based on their level of English etc.
A typical lesson will run for one hour (60 minutes) - Some students may prefer two-hour lessons (these can be discussed at the first meeting).
I have had 6 years of experience teaching at a Chinese University in Inner Mongolia, teaching oral, writing, reading, and listening skills.
I have had experience teaching from primary school age to adult classes.
For your first lesson, we will introduce ourselves to one another and then I will assess your level of English so that I can plan your future lessons for you, this will involve a brief introduction from me and then yourself and then an assessment to see where I need to help you.
