About Matthew
I am a former high school teacher from MA. I have worked at two different schools, but thought I would be happier doing more one-on-one or small group work. Throughout college I was employed as a part-time tutor throughout the semesters as well as for a summer program catered to incoming college freshman who struggled with math. I have a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics as well as a Master's in Secondary Education and am the recipient of the 2018 Thomas G. Lathrop Award for my work as in educator in my college community.

Hello, my name is Matthew C. I have an BS in Mathematics M. Ed in Secondary Education. At Salem State University, I was awarded the Thomas G. Lathrop Award for outstanding performance to the mathematics discipline. I earned my teacher's license in my home state of MA. Additionally, I have taught mathematics at two different public schools and am currently working as a full-time math tutor both independently and as an employee of Tutor Doctor Chattanooga.
My teaching focuses on fostering understanding. I believe that understanding why a shortcut or pattern works helps in retaining the skill for future use. I try to teach my students to the best of my abilities. I am very easy-going and try to alter my pedagogy depending on what I believe my students need at their sessions.

As long as neither party has any additional obligations, the tutor and student can extend the session for up to an extra 60 mins for only $10. If you need me to travel outside of the 15 mi radius, contact me and we can negotiate pricing. Cancellation can only be done within 48 hours of appointment.
