About Dean

Hi, I’m Dean, an experienced Occupational Therapist specialising in acute frailty and elderly care. Throughout my career, I’ve developed a strong passion for sharing knowledge and supporting others to grow. I want to teach because I know how challenging OT training can be, and I want to make that journey easier, more practical and enjoyable. I bring real clinical experience in occupational science, clinical reasoning, rehabilitation and complex equipment, helping students connect what they learn at university with what actually happens in practice. My goal is simple: to help you become a confident, capable Occupational Therapist.

Studying OT can be a tough gig! University involves a lot of independent learning, and sometimes you’re left trying to make sense of complex theories, assignments and clinical concepts without quite having the support you need. You might understand the topic but struggle to put it into academic writing, or know the theory but find it difficult to apply it to real-life practice. If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone, and I’m here to help.

I’m a Senior Occupational Therapist working in the NHS, with over 8 years of experience across different areas of Occupational Therapy, including acute frailty, older adult care, rehabilitation, paediatrics and mental health. I bring practical clinical experience and a genuine interest in helping students develop their knowledge, confidence and understanding of the profession.

Learning is personal, and there really is no one-size-fits-all approach. My aim is to offer friendly, affordable and tailored support that meets you where you are in your learning journey.

Who can I support?

I can support prospective OT students who need guidance with university applications or personal statements, undergraduate students who want to strengthen their understanding of theory and practice, and students preparing for placements or assessments. I can also support healthcare support workers and other learners looking to develop their knowledge and progress towards a qualification in Occupational Therapy.

What can our sessions offer?

Our sessions can be used to consolidate your learning, revisit difficult topics, prepare for exams, discuss clinical questions, plan assignments or explore case studies that help connect theory with practice. We can also work on clinical reasoning, placement preparation, occupational therapy models, assessments and interventions, using practical examples to make learning easier to understand.

I also offer assignment review and feedback for Occupational Therapy and related healthcare topics. If you would prefer feedback on an assignment rather than a full tutoring session, you can send me your assignment brief, original question and marking criteria. I’ll review your work and provide constructive feedback, highlighting strengths and suggesting areas for improvement. As a guide, a one-hour review covers approximately 3,500 words, with a turnaround time of up to 48 hours.

My approach is relaxed, supportive and practical. We can use discussions, presentations, question-and-answer sessions and case studies, or explore other ways of learning that work for you.

Ultimately, this is about your learning, your goals and your confidence. Whether you need help understanding one difficult concept or ongoing support throughout your studies, we can work together at your pace and focus on what will make the biggest difference to you.

I can support you with real-life placement experience from working in the NHS, particularly within acute care. If you’re new to the hospital environment, struggling to adjust to placement, or simply want to feel more prepared, I can help you understand what to expect and confidently apply your university knowledge to real patients, clinical reasoning, assessments and discharge planning.
