About DEBASHREE

and I am from Kolkata, a beautiful city located in Eastern India, on the banks of the river Ganga. I am 22 years old. I possess an academic background in social sciences and have done my bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Political Science and Gender Studies. I have also completed a Certificate Course in the Spanish Language.
I have a total of 3 years of teaching experience. I began my teaching career by working as an Education Support Teacher at Make a Difference for 2 years, from August 2014-16. My primary responsibilities there consisted of teaching English to children across shelter homes in India, on a weekly basis, helping the organisation by developing lesson plans and curriculum for students ahead of the scheduled class hours as well as improving upon the existing course structure to ensure increased relevance of education for children. After that, I began working as an Online ESL Tutor at Native Camp PTE.LTD from April 2017 and am working until the present day. My daily responsibilities include teaching communicative English, spoken English, business English, travel English and basic grammar and comprehension to Japanese students.

About the lesson

As a teacher, I value the opportunity to be able to engage with my students, who come from various cultures and backgrounds. Such exposure has made me more aware and open-minded towards students. My teaching philosophy is collaborative and interactive. I like to adhere to the Flipped teaching approach, in which the students are introduced to the learning material before class, with classroom time then being used to deepen understanding through discussion and problem-solving activities. As a teacher, I like to make good use of either a virtual chat box or whiteboard for note-taking and review. A 5-minute review of before class-end helps students recapitulate and retain lessons. During the review, I like to highlight upon three grammatical errors, three mispronounced words and one newly-learnt word or phrase. A final feedback is of high significance during lesson-end. I like to adopt a Sandwich-method for feedback, consisting of encouraging students on their class-performance, highlighting areas of improvement, followed by final words of encouragement.
