About Shelley
I have a B.Ed in Elementary Education from UVIC, with a Specialization in English Literature. TESOL and TEFL Certificates. Taught in First Nations Schools for 10+ years. Taught preschool programs and gymnastics for 9 years. Currently online ESL teaching for 2+ years. Prior to my years in university and education, I was employed at the Institute of Sedimentary and Petroleum Geology, the University of Calgary, and the National Energy Board, working in libraries to provide key information to support research and development in geology, paleontology as well as oil and gas.

Welcome! I'm so glad you are here. I provide lessons geared to individual needs. I use TPR, rewards, facial cues, actions and employ strategies where students engage mentally and physically. Music, movement, actions, props, role play, reading aloud, writing, videos, powerpoints, practice exercises. I want them to see it, hear it, practice it, try it, and develop confidence. Research indicates that learners need at least 7 exposures to a new concept before it is learned. Then practice! Thus repetition in different formats is also key. Lessons are also geared to the developmental level, age, and preferences of the student.
I have worked with students in ESL instruction from age 3 to 60.
