About Maria Clara

I really believe in the use of authentic materials in class - news, videos, blogs, everything. And I like to create exercises about them, reinforcing what has already been forgotten and highlighting what is far too easy to forget. I plan to shape the class according to your interest: if you want to be a flight attendant, it is on this type of vocabulary that we will focus, and if you want to take the TOEFL or the SATs, that's what we are going to practice. I believe that the student is the leader and the boss of their own learning and I am the facilitator. In English I would say that 'I'm the one who knows the ropes'. I am here to guide you and teach you!

About the lesson

I started learning English when I was basically a baby (at 3 years old!), and I have always studied in international schools where at least 50% of the curriculum was taught in English. I have traveled, lived and studied abroad in Los Angeles and Amsterdam. Upon returning to Rio, I decided to become a teacher - at first, teaching English, then, Dutch, and later even Portuguese for foreigners!

I absolutely love learning new things, never mind sharing them too. Some of my hobbies include filmmaking, playing and composing for acoustic guitar, studying new languages and reading everything I can in any language that I can - classic American literature, non-fiction books, and, currently, Harry Potter in Dutch.

I am a very knowledgeable teacher, but also a very motherly one. Thanks to the course I took from Arizona State University, I learned a lot about the science behind language acquisition. But any truly experienced teacher knows that each student learns in a different way, and I adapt myself to fit the needs of each student. It is up to me to find that perfect combination of scientific knowledge and personal knowledge of the student to ensure that you learn in the best and quickest way possible.

I'm willing to negotiate the amount in case the student wishes to schedule several classes, and the "taxa de deslocamento" would be in essence the price of the fare from my residence to the meeting point, and it could go up in case I need to take the metro, or even be null if it is close enough to my home. Please do not cancel with less than 3h of previous warning.
