About Stephen
I have a B.A. in English Language and Literature, diplomas and certificates in Adult Education, Online Teaching, and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL). I am currently working on obtaining an M.ED in instruction and Design with a minor in TESOL.
I have taught business courses and software applications at private career colleges to adult students. I have also tutored Chinese students in an online environment. Currently I am am working with adult ESL students.

Working with adult students requires a balance of structured lessons and flexibility. Adults expect to work in partnership with the instructor to achieve their goals for studying the material. They come to the table with experiences and knowledge which enriches the learning experience.
Lessons are planned based upon needs assessments; what does the student think they need or want to study. In Canada the standard for language instruction is The Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks ((concealed information) The goal of the material is to guide the students in real-life exercises; activities which they could reasonably expect to do in their daily activities.
Assignments target the areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing and assessments are portfolio based (Portfolio-Based Language Assessment (PBLA) which allows both the student and the teacher to see the progress in achieving the benchmark level.
