About Fernando

I am currently a full scholarship student at a British school that offers the IB curriculum, internationally recognized for producing students with well-rounded profiles and open minds.

Since 2019, I have participated in Academic Olympiads in the areas of Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science and History of Brazil, in which I have 2 gold medals (United Kingdom Mathematics Trust), 1 silver medal (Kangaroo Math Olympiad), 2 honorable mentions (OBMEP), 1 invitation to the International Olympiad (AMC) and I am a pioneer in participating in the Final Phase of the OBI (Brazilian Computer Science Olympiad) at my current school.

Since 2022, I have been teaching Python and Java Programming classes for beginners and intermediate students. Initially, I was part of a social project led by my colleagues until, in 2024, I joined the Juntos na Tech project (where we teach Python and Java Programming to people living in the Paraisópolis community) as a teacher and, this year, I became, in addition to being a teacher, the president of the project.

I am currently taking part in the Pioneer Research Institute's academic research program, where I will be conducting research in the area of Mathematics and Artificial Intelligence under the supervision of a professor from Georgetown University.

My friends and people close to me consider me to be a resourceful person who manages to convey a sense of tranquility in my explanations, qualities that I try to reflect in my methodology and transmit to my students in my classes.

About the lesson

My approach consists of:

• Recap, if necessary, of the content covered in the previous class;

• "Leveling test", for the student, if necessary, where he demonstrates his knowledge on the topic to be studied;

• Presentation of general concepts to be studied in class, e.g., Algebra, Trigonometry;

• Personalized explanation of the specific topic (eg, Law of Sines and Cosines, Second Degree Equations), based on the student's level of knowledge;

• Exercises to be solved in class, with the help of the teacher (my help) and independently;

• Exercises to be completed for the next class.

I have about 1 year and a half of experience with this approach teaching Computer Science and English classes as a volunteer teacher in NGOs and social projects (of which I am currently president of one), in addition to leading workshops at my school in Computer Science and Mathematics.

My classes are aimed at Elementary School students (1st to 8th grade) and High School students (preferably 9th - 11th, but also 12th) on topics such as Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry.
