Throughout my lessons in GCSE and A level maths, I was always the person that others came to for help. I found that explaining concepts to others helped solidify them to myself, so I did it often and developed teaching skills that have stayed with me through university.

I find that developing intuition in mathematics is the key to being confident to approach new problems. If you understand why an approach works, you’ll know when it is applicable and helpful to use.
In conjunction to this I like to try to develop meta-cognition skills. That is, knowing where you are in a problem, what steps must be taken to get closer to a solution, and what techniques could be applied to help you get there.
