About Margaret
I love teaching and working with students. My teaching philosophy includes inclusive and culturally responsive pedagogy that helps all students feel safe, valued, and successful in my classroom. Life is art and one way I express this to my students is by wearing clothing I make by hand when teaching.
The truly robust art education plan I can offer, provides opportunities for students to become motivated to learn by helping them to experience success (the need for mastery), curiosity (the need for understanding), originality (self expression), and develop positive relationships with others. These components are necessary for a complete and productive life.
As a committed educator, I am constantly working to improve and update an environment that is youth and community focused; one that embraces the visual and performing arts as a core to learning in order to strengthen and inspire the overall academic educational process.

I received her B.F.A. in Illustration from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, freelanced in advertising for a few years in the 90’s, received an M.Ed. in Cross-Cultural Education, an M.F.A. in studio arts and a clear single Subject Teaching Credential in Visual Arts (with special education and cross-cultural emphasis).
My work has been published in several books and journals and I continue to exhibit annually in galleries and museums throughout the country.
In the 90’s she was part of the Chicana Feminist Art Movement that co-founded Mujeres de Maiz ; a community grassroots, women of color, multimedia arts organization.
In 2015, I was one of 5 artists chosen from a national pool of applicants, who completed an artist residency at the Taller Experimental de Gráfica in Havana, Cuba, for an unprecedented, printmaking exchange.
