About Peter

Hi, I'm Peter :-)

I trained as an actor and have been tutoring alongside my creative work for the past ten years. In 2024 I decided to upskill and enrol on a CELTA course. I now teach English as a secondary or other language.

I consider myself to be a creative individual, and all of my pursuits in life are linked by a passion for human connection. I love to travel, and enjoy meeting people from all walks of life. My desire to teach English came from a trip to Salamanca 2023, where I learned Spanish on an intensive course. I was so inspired by my own teachers that I decided I wanted to do the same in English. I loved how they constantly challenged their students whilst keeping us engaged and enjoying the process. My performance background lends itself well to teaching, I also run local theatre workshops, and I am skilled at maintaining the energy in a room, and keeping a group of students focused on their task.

I love that teaching English allows me to celebrate my students' language learning journeys, and be a positive part of helping to build confidence in communication.

About the lesson

With my creative background, my lessons are first of all fun, creative and engaging. Language learning should be enjoyable, as for me, it's all about communicating with a wider spectrum of people, promoting travel, and celebrating human connection.

I myself have experienced the learning of another language in an intensive learning environment, so I am super-aware of how confusing, frustrating, and exposing it can be. In my lessons my aim is to create a warm, encouraging atmosphere, as I find this is fertile ground for my students to feel their most confident, and do their best work.

I am entirely student-led, so I will start by finding out about you and what you want to learn, it may be that you want to focus on one particular element of the English language, or you may want to work your way through the levels in a more structured way. You may want to prepare for an upcoming exam. Whatever you need, I have many resources at my disposal to offer you an enriching learning experience.

Peter was my LAMDA teacher for the past 3 years and I can confidently say I learned so much more than I thought ever possible. The process to achieving a distinction felt like incredibly smooth sailing, where there was never a point that I felt confused or unsure of my abilities. His ability to communicate, motivate and help students discover and play to their own strengths is beyond compare.
As a student who only started with Grade 6, and then jumped to Grade 8, I didn't feel like I'd missed even a year of teaching with the immense help and understanding that came my way. So I can confidently say, a bad experience under his expertise is quite frankly not possible, as he'll always think in the performers' best interest.
