About Rahul

I am a third-year dental student in New York City and attended university in Los Angeles, both at accredited institutions. My undergraduate institution prioritized proficient and professional writing skills in their students, and I learned a lot about my own capabilities in writing and speaking English through this experience. I was a tutor for 2 years in undergrad (mostly in the sciences), but I also assisted ESL students in writing essays for their classes during this time. I helped these students gain confidence in themselves and their abilities, and this led to their grades improving on exams and essays. I come from an ESL household, and have learned the importance of patience in teaching and learning English, especially in communicating with my family.

About the lesson

My teaching would be primarily for ESL students who would like to improve their reading and writing skills in English. My approach is primarily interactive. I would like my students to show me how much they understand first in order for me to gauge their comfort level. From here, I will work with them on various areas of improvement, all the while asking them to show me that they understand my teaching style and lessons that I've prepared. I believe in affirmation throughout the teaching process, and make it a priority to remind the students how well they are doing as the lesson proceeds. Areas of improvement can always be addressed in future sessions, so making sure that the student trusts me in the present and feels comfortable with my approach is crucial.
