About James

My professional background is in financial technology, but I have recently finished this work with an intent to return to my previous teaching experience. I spent several months teaching 13-15 year old students politics, international relations, public speaking and business economics at a prestigious international school.

I am a native English speaker with a true mastery over the language, thanks to years of study, writing and practice. I am also a student of other languages, which has given me even greater insight into how English is constructed, spoken and written.

I have also tutored over the last few years, in and out of my studies in Cambridge and London, as well as between my jobs in finance, consultancy, research and teaching.

My academic subjects are Classics, languages, English literature, history, and philosophy, but I am happy to tutor more.

About the lesson

I'm a master's student with professional experience, who is happy to tutor up to A-Level. I always make sure to have samples of my pupils' work before lessons to ensure I'm aware of their progress, and then I like to discuss that sample with them so we both know exactly what we're going to do to continue.

I like to split my lessons into themes. For example, one lesson may be going over introductions, then another may be going on holidays. Within these lessons I always take care to cover the necessary grammar points in a useful way. In my lessons you're bound to discover as much about English grammar as you are English speech!

I'm a friendly teacher who likes to communicate with my pupils in order to discover strengths and weaknesses and really target them for the best results.

I like to conduct as much of the lesson as possible in English, but I do have some other language skills, so in some emergencies I may be able to communicate in your first language!
