My name is Erich Maia. I have been teaching English for over 10 years.
I hold...
- Degree in International Relations (Unijorge)
- Specialization in International Relations (UnB)
- Specialization in English Language Teaching (UPE)
- Teaching certification: Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
- Certification of English language proficiency at the highest level: Cambridge Proficiency (CPE, level C2)

I have lived in Canada and taught English as a foreign language at ILSC (International Language School of Canada - Vancouver-BC) in 2017.
Since my return from Canada, I have been teaching English at Cultura Inglesa, in addition to private classes (since 2014).

I love films and series, especially science fiction (Star Trek, Star Wars, Lost in Space, among other productions with themes about space and interplanetary travel, and also documentary series such as Cosmos).

My goal is to help my students improve their English language skills and mainly develop their conversation skills, for the most diverse purposes:
- general English
- for academic purposes (undergraduate, master's, doctorate, etc.);
- for Cambridge international exams (FCE, CAE, CPE);
- for the IELTS exam;
- for IT (Information Technology)
- for business.

CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH
I have always taught conversation classes, be it just a conversation class per se or conversation moments that I always include in my regular classes, and back when I was a student conversation classes were my favorite way of practicing English alongside watching series.

ENGLISH FOR BUSINESS
I have helped many students improve their English language skills to boost their careers by getting a promotion to advance in the corporate hierarchy, getting remote jobs living in Brazil and working for companies in the United States or Europe, and also students who were looking to learn English so they could emigrate to work in other countries. In this preparatory course, we also work with English for job interviews so that you feel prepared to face the interview process with ease.

IELTS
In the past, still as a student, I took the IELTS and got the score I aimed for. As a tutor I have successfully helped many students prepare for the IELTS exam and get the score they needed for their objective, be it with IELTS Academic or IELTS General Training. I can definitely help you with this exam.

CAMBRIDGE ESOL: FCE, CAE, CPE
I have taken the Cambridge exams myself and I have been teaching preparation courses for these exams (in private classes and language schools) since 2018. I can help you understand the exam and prepare for it.

ENGLISH FOR TRAVELING
I have traveled to many countries over the years. I have been to Canada a couple of times as a student in the past and I have also lived and taught English in Canada in an international school. I can help you improve your English for traveling, so you can have the best experience going abroad.

FOR STUDYING ABROAD
I have been an international student in the past. I have lived in Argentina and Canada as a student before becoming an English teacher. I can help you with EAP (English for Academic Purposes) so you can feel better prepared to study in a school or university abroad.

GENERAL ENGLISH
I have been studying English for the past 25 years and teaching English for the past 10 years. I have lived and taught English in Canada. On top of that, I have been teaching English in Brazilian language schools for the past 8 years. I can help you improve your English speaking, listening, reading and writing skills so you can confidently communicate in English.

About the lesson

I prepare our classes according to your needs and objectives so that you develop the four skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing). The objectives are set during our first conversation and all subsequent classes are developed based on what you are aiming to achieve and on your topics of interest. Furthermore, I also plan our classes to be dynamic and varied, using, in full or in part, different types of media (authentic texts, videos, audios, podcasts, lectures, etc.).
