About Stephen

Hello and welcome! I'm a Computer Science and Informatics graduate with a BSc degree from the University of Johannesburg and experience tutoring university students in Computer Science 2A and Informatics 2A. My academic background and tutoring experience have helped me develop a structured, patient and practical approach to teaching technical subjects.

I understand that Computer Science and IT can sometimes feel challenging, especially when you're learning new concepts or trying to apply theory to practical problems. My goal is to make these subjects easier to understand by breaking down complex topics, working through examples together and helping you develop the confidence to solve problems independently.

My approach to tutoring is patient, practical and focused on helping students understand concepts rather than simply memorising information. I hold a BSc in Computer Science and Informatics and have university-level tutoring experience at the University of Johannesburg, where I supported students studying Computer Science 2A and Informatics 2A. This experience taught me the importance of explaining difficult concepts clearly, adapting to different learning styles and helping students develop confidence in their abilities.

**My teaching methodology**

I break complex technical topics into smaller, manageable steps and use practical examples, exercises and guided problem-solving to make learning easier. I encourage students to ask questions, explore different approaches and learn from their mistakes in a supportive environment. Rather than simply giving answers, I guide students through the reasoning behind each solution so they can become more independent and confident learners.

**The lessons I offer**

I provide online tutoring in Computer Science, Informatics, programming fundamentals, IT fundamentals, computer literacy and introductory cybersecurity concepts. I can also assist with understanding course material, practising programming logic, debugging code, preparing for tests and exams, and improving general computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
