About Chris
Dear students, for the past 2 years I have been teaching year 12 English at the number 1 ranked international school in Central China; Wuhan Britain China School. Due to the pandemic I returned back to my native Perth. Last year I led 82 students through the IFY English for Academic Purposes course, 100% of the class passed, and nearly 100% of those students went on to study at top universities outside of China. At university I majored in Chinese (Curtin University), English (Cambridge Assessment English) and Education (University of WA). English is my mother tongue, and my knowledge of Chinese helps me to teach my students more effectively.

My teaching style is rooted in my own experience of learning Chinese as a 2nd language. I focus first on listening skills, then speaking, after this I will have students focus on reading and finally writing. I focus on the skills in this order, because based on research and my personal experience, this is the way the human mind most effectively learns language. This is the complete opposite to how one would learn English in the Gao Kao courses. I also believe that to effectively learn a language students must feel safe, and free to make mistakes. So I place much emphasis on creating an environment where you feel SAFE.
