About Bob

From spreadsheets to six strings, the love for guitar strummed its way into my life in 2019. Trading the office grind for a musical adventure brought joyful experiences on stage and a Grade 6 electric guitar with distinction (thankfully, my playing hasn't caused any complaints yet). I explore a variety of sounds and techniques, from classical fingerstyle to jazzy electric guitar rhythms.

New to guitar? Don't sweat it! The beginner's journey is the foundation for developing a great playing style. With dedication, patience, and clear goals, your guitar objectives can become real.

Music isn't just about the notes, it's about the emotions it ignites. Let's connect with the music within and create something beautiful together.

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

Music has always been a part of my life since I was a child. I used to listen to classical albums—Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi and other genres such as Kraftwerk, Enigma etc—over and over. Something about it resonated deeply with me.

I always wanted to play the piano, but I was too shy to tell my parents, and they never asked. Funny how life works out—I started learning guitar in 2019, an instrument I hadn’t even considered before. But from the moment I began, everything clicked. I fell in love with its beauty and never looked back.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Absolutely. There are several artists I can listen to on repeat. For example:

Peter Gregson and his fantastic 'Bach Cello Recomposed',

Max Richter, especially his 'Recomposed: Vivaldi's Four Seasons',

and Pink Floyd, for the brilliant guitar work of David Gilmour.

There are definitely others, but their music never drives me crazy—even on a loop.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

The most challenging course I could offer would be a comprehensive guitar mastery program. I'd design it to be as clear and accessible as possible, while tackling the instrument from every critical angle.

This would include an intense focus on foundational pillars like:

    Rhythm & Timing

    Ear Training

    Chord Knowledge & Voicings

    Fingerstyle Technique

    Technical Workouts

    Fretboard Mastery

The difficulty wouldn't come from complexity for its own sake, but from the dedication required to build a complete and unshakable musical foundation.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I would say the violin, and perhaps the cello as well. To truly master the violin, I believe one almost has to start very young. Developing a refined and controlled bow technique alone takes an exceptionally long time and demands a highly trained ear for intonation, as there are no frets to guide you. The same likely applies to the cello, given its similar technical demands.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

My key to success is a structured, goal-oriented process. It begins with clearly defining what success means to you personally. From there, you establish clear objectives. The most critical step is breaking those objectives down into the smallest, most manageable goals. This makes the path forward clearer and allows you to focus your energy precisely on what needs to be achieved, one step at a time.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

First, David Gilmour. I am in awe of his guitar playing—it's so immersive and profoundly expressive. I had the chance to see him live in 2024, and it was a true musical journey; I'd love to understand the mind behind that sound.

Second, The Beatles (I know, that's four for the price of one!). I'd be fascinated to talk to them about their musical exploration—how they consistently crafted such incredible harmonies and melodies that changed the face of music.

Finally, Jimi Hendrix. While I'm not primarily a rock fan, his insane mastery of the guitar is utterly fascinating. I'd want to know how he taught himself, developed his unique voice, and managed to achieve in a few short years what takes most musicians a lifetime.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I don’t know any anecdotes related to music, but I’ll come up with one. I’ll probably take me a lifetime. Pretty much like learning an instrument.

To be honest, I don’t know any anecdotes related to music—but coming up with a good one feels a lot like learning an instrument. It might just take me a lifetime to perfect it
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

That's a question I feel is best answered by my students. For me, the true measure of a great tutor isn't a title, but the progress and joy for music they inspire in their students. I don't believe you ever truly become 'Super'—you simply keep learning, improving, and dedicating yourself to the journey alongside them.
