About Neilsen
Hello, I'm Neilsen! I have a Bachelor's in Applied Mathematics, and I plan to pursue a Master's in Data Science starting next year. Throughout my undergrad, I have taken a lot of courses in both pure and applied math to have a very solid background in the theory of Mathematics, as well as its applications.
I have had 3 years of experience working with university students in Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, & Calculus 2. I also have basic knowledge on the literature behind Math pedagogy, so I take student learning very seriously.
In terms of my approach, I structure my tutoring style based on your background as well as your specific needs. However, my main priority is to provide a safe/comfortable learning environment, and ensure a solid understanding of the material.
Aside from all the math, my hobbies include weight-lifting, running, and I have a pretty awesome record collection.

How I structure my sessions will largely depend on students' confidence on the material, as well as their needs.
In Math, I believe it is very beneficial to do practice problems, and understand the main ideas behind them. Typically, I will start with an activity that recalls important concepts, and then apply said concepts to practice problems.
Whether it is through doing a high volume of problems or focus on the big ideas of a few problems, my main goal is really for students to understand the math behind computations/methods and understand the "why."
I will work with high school and college students taking algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus 1, calculus 2, and anything in between.
Whether it is for a big test, homework help, or purely supplemental such that you stay sharp on the material, I will be sure to adjust accordingly to your needs.
I am willing to tutor online or travel to an agreed-upon location.
