About Lauren
My name is Lauren and I am 20 years old. I was diagnosed with autism at the age of 16 after years of wondering why I was so 'different' from the other kids around me. I always struggled with school- keeping focussed, socialising with my peers and the relentless feeling that I was not entirely understood. I would now love to be able to help children who may feel similar to the way I did growing up, and show them that they are great the way they are and help them to succeed. I'm not just talking about academic success, but personal success such as overcoming obstacles and feeling confident in themselves. I achieved 12 GCSEs at school with grades A*-B and did four subjects at college (AS and A-Levels) but am currently only looking to tutor primary school aged children unless agreed otherwise. My tutoring sessions are tailored to each individual child's needs. This is not exclusive to autism.

I like to work in a way that encourages children's existing strengths while discovering new ones. I think that self-belief is key and that is where my lessons stem from. If a child is not comfortable or happy then their learning will be affected, so this is the most important thing to me. Before our first session, I will arrange a video chat with you, the parent/guardian, to get a real understanding of your child's needs and how I can best help them. I will check in with you regularly to ensure you're happy with our progress. All sessions will take place over video chat unless your child feels uncomfortable doing this, in which case we can enter a live chat without a camera or microphone (typing back and forth). As much as possible, I would request that the child's parent or guardian stays with them during our sessions to provide input where needed and to make sure you are happy with the sessions and our progress.
