About Katherine
Violinist Katherine Gilger has dedicated the last eight years to teaching and inspiring young musicians. She recently graduated from the Mannes School of Music, where she earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. During her time at Mannes, Katherine studied under David Chan, concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and the esteemed pedagogue Aaron Rosand. She also served as concertmaster of the Mannes Orchestra. Currently, Katherine performs with the North Carolina Symphony and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, and she holds the position of Assistant Concertmaster with the Venice Symphony. As an active chamber musician, she has collaborated with members of the American Ballet Theatre, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. A passionate recitalist, Katherine has recently performed in Vermont, North Carolina, upstate New York for the Young Musicians Forum, and throughout New York City. Growing up in Raleigh, North Carolina, Katherine began her musical journey at the age of four with the piano and picked up the violin at seven. She studied under Rebekah Binford, Assistant Concertmaster of the North Carolina Symphony, and served as concertmaster for three youth orchestras. Katherine aims to share her diverse musical experiences and deep love for music with her students, enriching their lives and expanding their horizons through the joy of learning.

I had the privilege of training with esteemed masters, including the renowned pedagogue Aaron Rosand, and I incorporate their expert approaches into my teaching—right down to the proper techniques for holding the bow and violin. For beginners, I utilize the Suzuki method alongside other valuable resources I've discovered throughout my journey.

Katherine is a very thoughtful teacher who puts a tremendous amount of energy into all of her students, giving them the best possible experience learning violin. I have worked with Katherine for many years and have seen how fast her students progress as well as develop a love for their instrument. I can’t recommend her enough!
Katherine has been teaching my son the violin for over 2 years. She has been patient and kind to him and does not give up on him even when he hasn't practiced in weeks.
