About Sanna

I work as a young professional urban planner in Auckland, with two years of experience working across a range of small to large scale developments. In my day-to-day, I collaborate closely with other industry professionals including architects, engineers, urban designers, transport and environmental specialists, reviewing everything from technical reports to architectural and landscape plans. My work involves critical thinking, communication, research, report writing, and design analysis, so the skills I offer to teach are ones I actively use every day in a professional setting.

I have also assisted in running my company’s summer internship programme and mentored graduates transitioning into full time work. I genuinely enjoy teaching, and helping people build their academic confidence, which is part of why I want to tutor as well.

I enjoy helping students understand not just what to learn, but how to think critically and express themselves clearly which is often lacking in this era where technology tends to offer shortcuts to building critical thinking and analysis skills.

Academically, I graduated from UoA with First Class Honours and received several academic awards throughout my studies, including “Most Promising Student” and recognition for an excellent understanding of sustainability in a planning context. I was also awarded a summer research scholarship assisting a university professor with research into future mobility technologies. My degree combined both academic and creative work, with a strong focus on urban design and visual communication. I consistently achieved high grades across both written and design-focused subjects ranging from law, to economics, to shelter and sustainable urbanism papers.

At Long Bay College, I graduated as DUX in 2020 and received distinction in leadership as a cultural prefect. I was awarded First in Subject for Year 13 English, Most Outstanding Year 13 Visual Artist, and Outstanding Scholarship in Design and Visual Communication for product design.

Throughout both school and university, I particularly enjoyed English, creative subjects, design, and analytical writing.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is simple. I adapt the way I teach so that each of you can learn in the way that works best for you. My goal is to help make real progress, build confidence, and see tangible results from the work you put in. Before getting stuck in, I like to have a conversation about a your current strengths, study habits, goals, and upcoming internals or externals so I can tailor sessions specifically to what you need most.

My main focus is English, particularly NCEA English, essay writing, critical analysis, written communication, and exam preparation. I am also available for tutoring in Design and Visual Communication and other English-based or creative subjects. For portfolio-based subjects, I can help with concept development, presentation, visual communication, layout, refinement, and design thinking.
