About Louis

Enjoy teaching all abilities from KS2 up to A-level. Working as a Maths Teacher at one of the top Comprehensive schools in South Wales. I have a Background in both Maths and Economics (BSc & MSc) with a PGCE in Secondary Maths.

Many of my classes vary in their ability across several levels. I successfully plan my lessons to differentiate for all abilities in the class. Using a range of materials and teaching styles, I include many rich activities with concrete examples to build a relational understanding. In my lessons, I incorporate formative assessment opportunities, as well as carrying out formal assessments such as supporting the delivery of the Trial National Numeracy Reasoning Test. I provide effective feedback to my pupils. Lesson comment’s highlight my ability to build strong relationships with pupils. I have excellent behaviour for learning techniques, being consistent and calm to create a positive and supportive learning environment. I believe having set routines and expectations on pupils behaviour strategies and procedures are essential to ensure excellent behaviour for learning. This is an area identified as outstanding in feedback. I always take time to reflect on my lessons and take steps to ensure I am able to support my professional development from each lesson. Lesson feedback has always been positive. My ability to progress my teaching competencies from lesson comments and independent learning has been noted by school mentors and my university. Continued personal and professional development is an aspect of teaching I am passionate about. I have enjoyed developing my teaching abilities in ensuring that high ability students are stretched and challenged to reach their full learning potential. Examples of this have been incorporating more complex past exam questions in my lessons and setting additional GCSE Numeracy worksheets weekly, providing feedback and support when needed.

I believe that every child must be given the opportunity to reach their full potential in a supportive inclusive environment. To truly inspire and educate every individual, the teacher must be ambitious and flexible in their approach when helping students to become ambitious in their own achievements and overcome barriers. I believe progress is measured not only through academic success, but also through becoming a well-rounded, ethical, healthy and enterprising young adult.
