About Elijah

Born and raised in Hong Kong, my musical journey began at the age of five when I first picked up the violin. With the support of dedicated instructors, I built a strong foundation in technical precision and musical sensitivity, setting the stage for my future achievements. At the age of eight, I had the privilege of studying under Mr. Ngai Ho-Chau, the former concertmaster of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. His mentorship not only refined my skills but also instilled in me a profound appreciation for musical expression and the value of diligent practice. Driven by a desire to reach new heights, I earned my LTCL Diploma with Distinction from Trinity London College at eighteen, a milestone reflecting countless hours of dedication. This achievement motivated me to further deepen my understanding of the instrument. Seeking new perspectives, I pursued advanced studies under the renowned violin maestro Mr. Hwang Wei-Ming at Taiwan SooChow University. There, I immersed myself in the art of violin technique, interpretation, and performance, gaining invaluable experience collaborating with talented musicians. Over the years, I received scholarships to study violin at Taiwan SooChow University and California Baptist University. These opportunities enriched my musical experiences and allowed me to perform in solo, chamber, and orchestral settings. My journey includes performances with ensembles such as the Hong Kong Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, Hong Kong Pro-Arte Orchestra, Taiwan SooChow University Orchestra, and Taiwan Rong-Shing Chamber Orchestra, among others. These experiences continue to inform my approach to teaching, allowing me to provide my students with practical insights and real-world performance techniques. Previously, I taught GCSE Music at Hollingworth Academy and provided violin instruction at The Hathershaw College and Radclyffe School, where I developed a holistic and student-centred teaching approach tailored to each learner's unique needs and goals. Currently, I am dedicated to teaching SEND students at The Peak School, where I strive to create a supportive and calming environment. I often incorporate live violin performances to help my students relax and connect with music on a deeper level. Additionally, I work with private violin students, including young musicians from Manchester High School for Girls and Withington Girls’ School, as well as those preparing for music scholarship auditions at prestigious institutions like London Westminster School. Recently, I had the pleasure of collaborating with Manchester-based artist Emma for her exhibition, Monton in Bloom. This opportunity allowed me to share my music in a creative and inspiring setting.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I believe it was an experience of fall in love at first sight with the violin, when I was 4 years old.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Bach's music heals the soul, it calms us, centres us, and creates focus in our lives.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

Learning to be patient with our progress is always the most difficult course.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

Violin is the most complicated instrument to master. No keys. No frets. If you put your hand on the piano, you play a note. It's in tune. But if you put it on the violin, maybe it is, maybe it isn't.
  • What are your keys to success?

    Practice. Patience. Progress.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Johann Sebastian Bach, Niccolò Paganini and Jean Sibelius. Don't you want to know what they were thinking and feeling when they create a piece of art?
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

Making new friends, enjoying the moments playing music together. Achieving goals and dreams, making the impossible possible, and so on.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

Receiving the support and love from my audience and students. They are the one who brought me here.
