About Brendan
I started many years ago with the Frontier Fiddlers, in the last 10 years i've played and hired most Winnipeg musicians that tour North America, i've recorded some of their albums and currently do work in Graphics as well. I have a background in classical such as Tchaikovsky, Bach Chaconne, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saens, as well as Country fiddle, I also improvise with bands on the fly all the time. My style relates to my tendency to work with artists of all kinds for a living.

First I would make sure your technique is right, and to focus first on bow technique so that playing is easier. I recommend investing in a bow before a body for that reason, as all the control really stems from the bow for controlling the volume. This will include understanding the complex nature of the bow itself.
Next i'll make sure your left hand is using proper position and technique for accurate notation, while making sure your posture allows for relaxed playing. This will all be in 1st position, as many people make a career with fiddle without needing to go higher. Part of the emphasis will be accurate double stops.
Next will be combining the two in reading either sheet music or tabs, and eventually by ear, for improve.
After that, learning scales and advanced bowing techniques for improv that provide an endless amount of musical creation. Violin will require many years of study, as the technique is extremely complex. Fiddle is rather easy by comparison, but requires alot of talent to pull off right.
