About Mckenzie
Performing for 12 years in musical theater led me to piano almost by accident while I accompanied my own singing students. I noticed that many singers wanted to play their own keys, so I began integrating DYNAMICS AND EXPRESSION into my technical instruction.
Having taught 210 students over 13 years, I have refined my ability to explain complex concepts like hand independence and sight playing. We will work through scales and arpeggios until your rhythm and timing feel completely natural. You can expect to build a solid foundation in classical repertoire or chord voicing while prepping for your upcoming goals.

Patience is actually the secret weapon when you start learning the piano as a mature student. I use my BMus Vocal Performance and Piano minor background to help you connect your musical theory to the actual sound you produce. We begin with a diagnostic playing assessment before we set a learning plan to ensure your practice remains efficient. Our time together involves practicing grade exam prep for ABRSM or Trinity while maintaining a focus on your personal enjoyment.
I have spent 13 years guiding students through the frustration of new skills and the joy of musical improvement. You will leave feeling more capable than when you arrived.
