About Malia
As a guitarist with a BM in World Music (Guitar Traditions) and over 5 years of teaching experience, I help students turn raw skill into refined technique. My lessons merge academic depth with the raw energy of metal, shred, and progressive rock. I work with both dedicated teens and adult learners chasing technical mastery. Every session focuses on efficient hand coordination and rhythm control. Students learn advanced techniques like sweeping, tapping, and string skipping with focus and flow. I teach how to build blistering speed while maintaining expressive phrasing. Lessons also include tone shaping, metronome discipline, and improvisation for self-expression. My approach values consistent improvement over empty repetition. We discuss how world rhythms and modal approaches can enhance metal phrasing. Each session pushes creativity through structure and awareness. My goal is to help you sound powerful, not just fast. Together, we’ll make your technique unstoppable and your playing unforgettable.

My guitar teaching method grows from one core idea: great players listen first. I help students train their ears to recognize melody, harmony, and rhythm with precision. Lessons include ear training, transcribing, and interval recognition exercises designed for all levels. We start with familiar songs and simple melodic patterns. The Campfire Strummer develops chord recognition and rhythmic feel through acoustic tunes. The Blues Seeker practices hearing bends, slides, and tonal color in expressive solos. I focus on linking sound and movement so students play what they hear. Each session includes practical drills that build awareness and confidence. My approach blends technique with mindful listening to deepen understanding. Over time, your ear becomes your best teacher. Students quickly move from reading to feeling music. I encourage consistency and curiosity as the foundation of progress. Soon, you’ll be picking out melodies and harmonies completely by ear.
