About Donovan
"Music should be difficult to put down. Most people assume that great playing requires endless hours of mindless repetition.
I prefer a groove-focused approach that keeps you engaged. After working with 173 students over 13 years, I know that progress happens when technique meets personal taste. My University of Otago Diploma in Music Performance informs how I break down fingerpicking and rhythm guitar.
Scales and modes become tools for expression rather than just chores. Electric technique and chord transitions round out the package. Watching a student master a song they love is why I still show up every day."

"Ever wonder why certain songs feel impossible to get under your fingers? We start by identifying the specific friction points in your playing and smoothing them out immediately. My lessons emphasize tactile feedback, incorporating fingerpicking and rhythmic discipline alongside complex chord transitions. As a University of Otago graduate, I provide structured guidance that aligns with the requirements for NCEA Levels 1 to 3.
I offer a monthly recorded review of progress so you can actually hear how far you have come. We focus on the guitar skills that matter most to your development. Everything moves at a pace that keeps you feeling challenged but never overwhelmed. You are welcome to join."
