About Joey
Teaching is how I keep the folk tradition alive after 13 years of gigging. As a self-taught musician, I’ve spent more than a decade playing circuits across Montreal and Toronto, learning the music firsthand and developing my own approach along the way.
That experience has taught me how to break down complex playing styles into simple, practical steps. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take your playing further, I focus on helping you understand the music, build confidence, and develop your own sound.
Most importantly, I want you to play the songs you actually enjoy hearing. We’ll work with music that inspires you while building the skills and understanding to make those songs your own.

Turning your song requests into manageable versions makes for a really rewarding time on the fretboard. I focus on fingerpicking and barre chords while weaving in improvisation and soloing to keep things fresh.
Reading sheet music or tabs is just part of the process when we check your tuning and maintenance. I also work in lead guitar elements alongside scales and modes plus basic chord transitions and acoustic technique. We keep the guitar and voice moving together naturally so you feel the rhythm deep in your bones. Having 10.0 out of 10 in song arrangement clarity helps me guide you through the trickiest passages.
You will find that playing along with me feels like a conversation between two instruments. I make sure the music stays grounded while you find your own way through the fretboard. We leave the technical jargon behind and just focus on how the music should feel to the listener.
