About Maya
I am a dedicated guitar teacher with 11 years of experience, specializing in songwriting, composition, and artist development. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a Guitar Emphasis, which has given me both the technical and creative foundation to guide students effectively. My goal is not only to teach guitar skills but also to help students find their unique voice as musicians. I work closely with aspiring singer-songwriters and independent musicians who want to bring their ideas to life. Lessons often include exploring song structure, chord progressions, and lyrical flow, while also encouraging experimentation and self-expression. For those interested in composition, I guide students through arranging music and blending styles to create something truly original. Recording is also a key part of my approach. I help students understand the basics of home recording, layering tracks, and polishing their songs into professional-sounding projects. This allows them to experience the full journey from idea to finished track. I believe every student has a story worth telling, and music is the most powerful way to share it. My teaching approach to guitar is designed to help students grow both technically and musically, no matter their starting point. I focus on making lessons clear, enjoyable, and goal-oriented, so students stay motivated and inspired.
I teach different styles including classical, acoustic, electric, bass, and jazz, while also guiding students in building strong fundamentals. Along with technique, I highlight the importance of body posture, finger independence, and smooth coordination to avoid strain and play with ease.
I also prepare students mentally for performances, auditions, and recitals by working on stage readiness and confidence. Through practice routines, role play, and mock performances, learners gain the ability to handle real-life musical situations.
For students who love experimenting with styles or pushing boundaries, I provide creative exercises that channel their energy into productive music-making. Those who are passionate about fingerstyle or detail-oriented playing receive step-by-step guidance to refine precision and expression.
I encourage students to connect emotionally with the instrument, making the guitar not just something they play, but a part of who they are. Every lesson is structured yet flexible, allowing space for exploration, creativity, and personal growth.
