• When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

  I feel guilty for having such a common reason, but I got a Chemistry experiment set as a kid. Every other Chemistry-inclined groupmate of mine said the same thing to me at some point. I guess the experience of manipulating the underlying matter of the universe with your own two hands, the feeling of creation, and the naive thrill of finally getting how things work are what won me over. Now I want to help my students experience all of this.

• What makes you passionate about your subject?

  At the base of it, I want to have an understanding. I want to know how things around me work, down to the atomic level. I want to know how and why things interact one way or the other, and I am not satisfied by the simple explanation. Because of this, I can't help myself from taking another math elective, an obscure chemistry course, or spending hours solving a physics problem.

• What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

  I like the smile on students' faces when they finally get it. I like seeing them realize how much they can achieve with the right guidance. I am happy to make people grow and break free of thinking they are somehow predisposed to fail at STEM. Tutoring is a pleasure for me, so I am happy to get better at it; it is my personal interest. When a student struggles, I don't get frustrated, because finding the right approach becomes an interesting puzzle for me. I am a Superprof because I like solving these puzzles and helping people feel capable as a result.

• Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you? Please explain.

  I am very lucky to have been a student of several very capable and passionate teachers. They have shaped my understanding of what good teaching is by making the otherwise often boring school curriculum feel like learning the secrets of the universe. They gave weight to the facts that they taught by placing them in the context of modern science and industry, so science class never felt like learning a dead language. They were strict where it mattered, but fair, approachable, and possessed a good sense of humor.

• What are your keys to success?

  I believe that success is derivative of good goal-setting and appropriate resources. A person who knows what they want to achieve, as well as when, how, and why they want to achieve it, can fail only because they lack the time, materials, or guidance to get there. I am a tutor, so my purpose is to help students define their learning goals and provide experienced guidance together with curated resources, saving them time to put in the work. Each student has their own key to success, and my job is to help them shape it.
