About Emma
I have 14 years experience in draughting at the National Theatre and as a freelancer. I have worked for Theatres throughout the West End and UK; in the US, China and Australia.
Over the last 10 years I have taught undergraduate classes of 10-15 students at a time.
I think that CAD is such an important skill to learn in order to progress in many different disciplines within theatre. It's an incredibly valuable design tool and can be a super fun way to solve technical problems!
Through my confidence with draughting I even built my own house!

I typically teach beginners the basics of AutoCad over 1 or 2 lessons. (Depending on your aptitude).
We could then work on your own projects in order to make the learning relevant and engaging. If you do not have your own project, I can create some for you. We can draw in 2D to begin with, and then progress onto 3D if you'd like.
I specialise in draughting scenery, but can bend my knowledge to other industries.
If you would like to concentrate on theatre - we can look at reading and creating theatre groundplans and sections; importing lighting and sound plans; drawing scenery for design; drawing scenery for construction; and drawing and plotting scenery to scale for model making.
This won't just be a lesson in how to draw lines in a software package - it will be an introduction into how to communicate effectively to different departments and contractors in a theatre environment.
I offer 1 or 2 hour lessons. First lesson is free, but is just a 30 minute taster session so I can assess your skill level and we can discuss what you would like to learn.
If you would prefer to learn face to face we can arrange for the lessons to be in the National Theatre foyer - Central London
